Abstract: In shield tunneling projects within urban central areas, shield machines increasingly encounter abandoned underground trenchless pipelines, posing a persistent and challenging obstacle to smooth construction progress. To address this issue, this paper proposes three core countermeasures: equipment modification, pre-grouting of casings, and forward-reverse flushing circulation technology. Additionally, to accommodate stoppage conditions during long-distance tunneling, intermediate reinforcement zones have been established to facilitate atmospheric-pressure chamber opening for obstacle removal. These measures have been successfully implemented and validated in the Section 2#–5# (a 3-km-long DN3500 shield tunnel) of the Longhua Wastewater Treatment Plant’s Initial Rainfall Storage Project in Xuhui District, Shanghai, demonstrating their feasibility and effectiveness, thereby offering valuable reference for similar engineering projects.
