A GIS-based Approach to Multi-source Data Siting Planning for Affordable Rental Housing — Take Tianfu New District in Sichuan Province as an Example

Abstract: This study examines the suitability of affordable rental housing site selection in Tianfu New District, Sichuan Province. A comprehensive evaluation index system is constructed, incorporating 13 factors derived from two primary sources: the actual needs of target population groups and the new district's development plans. The research employs the Best-Worst Method (BWM) to determine index weights and establishes a mathematical evaluation model. This methodological approach enables a rigorous assessment of potential sites for affordable rental housing, considering both socioeconomic factors and urban planning objectives. Based on GIS, a single factor quantitative analysis was carried out to obtain each grid layer, and each layer was weighted superimposed to obtain the suitability evaluation map of affordable rental housing location in Tianfu New District. According to GIS natural breakpoint classification method, the whole area of Tianfu New District is divided into four levels: the most suitable area, the general suitable area, the less suitable area and the unsuitable area, covering an area of 191.59km2, 363.76km2, 484.95km2and 517.75km2, respectively. The most suitable area is mainly distributed in Huayang street, Longquan Street, Xihangang street, Dongsheng street and Xinglong Town, while the general suitable area is predominantly distributed surrounding the most suitable area.
