Abstract: Taking ornamental value, economy, culture, resistance and adaptability as evaluation index, we identified 19 evaluation factors based on expert consultation and market research then used them in analytic hierarchy process to make integrated assessment of 12 rare tree species in Changxing County. There are 3 species (Ginkgo biloba, Zelkova schneideriana and Pistacia chinensis) suitable for afforestation on plain and 2 species (Betula luminifera and Phoebe chekiangensis) for mountains. This afforestation evaluation system for rare tree selections we established has its practical significance for forestry production and the development of rare trees resources.
