Analysis of the Efficacy of Breast Health Care in Preventing Postpartum Mastitis

Abstract: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of breast health care nursing in preventing postpartum mastitis. A total of 98 parturients were randomized into a control group (n=49, receiving routine postpartum care) and an observation group (n=49, receiving structured breast health care nursing). The results demonstrated that the observation group exhibited significantly lower incidences of postpartum mastitis (6.12% vs. 24.49%) and milk stasis (8.16% vs. 30.61%), alongside significantly reduced breast pain scores (2.89 ± 0.97 vs. 5.21 ± 1.34) and breast hardness scores (1.23 ± 0.46 vs. 2.78 ± 0.85). Furthermore, levels of inflammatory factors (IL-6 and TNF-α) in breast milk were significantly lower, while the rate of exclusive breastfeeding was significantly higher (87.76% vs. 65.31%) in the observation group compared to the controls (all P < 0.05). The study concludes that implementing structured breast health care nursing can significantly reduce the risk of postpartum mastitis and milk stasis, alleviate breast discomfort, and promote exclusive breastfeeding rates.
