Abstract: This thesis explores the integration of the Internet of Things (IoT) in managing smart city infrastructure, highlighting its transformative potential across various urban systems, including traffic management, energy optimization, and public safety. As urbanization accelerates globally, cities face mounting challenges, including traffic congestion, excessive energy consumption, and security concerns. IoT-based solutions offer data-driven approaches that leverage real-time monitoring, advanced analytics, and automated decision-making to enhance operational efficiency, promote sustainable practices, and improve quality of life for urban residents. This study examines key IoT applications, identifies infrastructure management challenges, and demonstrates the value of decision support systems (DSS) and feedback mechanisms for adaptive city management. Findings indicate that while IoT deployment poses challenges related to data interoperability, security, and scalability, the advantages it brings in predictive analytics, efficient resource management, and real-time response to urban needs make it a cornerstone for the future of sustainable cities.
