Conservation and Revitalization of Heritage Buildings in the Context of Urban Renewal

Abstract: China has a long history of culture and has developed numerous heritage buildings with cultural attributes. Nowadays, a large number of valuable heritage buildings have been damaged and are in urgent need of protection and revitalization. However, due to the limitation of funds, manpower and other problems, the cultural relics buildings cannot be well protected and utilized. The article takes Wuhan Gude Temple as an example, analyzes its courtyard space and entrance signs, and summarizes a practical and credible revitalization method based on the urban renewal context. Then, it applies this approach to the design of the renovation and renewal of the boiler house of the former Huaxin Yarn Factory in Tianjin, so as to provide reference value for the revitalization and utilization of other cultural relic buildings.
