Doxycycline's Effects on Symptoms and Inflammatory Response in Children with Mycoplasma Pneumoniae Pneumonia: A Safety Analysis

Abstract: Objective: To evaluate the clinical efficacy of doxycycline in treating Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia (MPP) in children. Methods: A total of 78 MPP patients treated in our hospital from September 2024 to October 2025 were randomly divided into groups. The reference group (39 cases) received azithromycin sequential therapy, while the study group (39 cases) was treated with doxycycline. The therapeutic outcomes of both groups were observed. Results: After treatment, the study group exhibited shorter durations for the disappearance of main symptoms and signs compared to the reference group (P < 0.05). Post-treatment, the study group showed lower levels of CRP, TNF-α, and IL-8, along with a higher overall clinical efficacy rate compared to the reference group (P < 0.05). No statistically significant difference was observed in the incidence of adverse drug reactions between the two groups (P > 0.05). Conclusion: In the clinical treatment of MPP in children, doxycycline demonstrates superior efficacy in alleviating core symptoms (fever, cough) and mitigating systemic inflammatory responses, with a higher overall clinical efficacy rate and favorable safety profile.
