Full Text(PDF, 37KB)

Author: Tian Tian

Abstract: The paper explores students’ reticence in college English classrooms, analyzes the reasons why students remain silent or lack verbal participation in class, and proposes suggestions to improve classroom interaction. The study focuses on non-English majors in Beijing Wuzi University, collecting data through semi-structured interviews and observations in English classrooms for analysis. The results indicate that reticence is influenced by various factors, including personal factors, linguistic abilities, and psychological factors, as well as teaching methods such as classroom questioning. This paper proposes countermeasures to address the issue of classroom reticence in English class, thereby enhancing the efficiency of English teaching and learning.
