Author: Jiabao Fan, Liying Mi

Abstract: The translation practice materials are selected from the book The True Nature of Abenomics: Japan's Economy Degraded by Political Means by Japanese scholar Koetsu Aizawa, using the Vinay & Darbelnet's Model as a theoretical guide to address two major challenges in the process of text translation: the translation of financial nouns and the adaptation of translations in the target language country. The direct translation and the oblique translation under the model contain seven translation techniques. The translation practice results show that the techniques under the direct translation are more applicable to where there is a clear borrowing and fusion or 'integration of language' between two languages, and where there are different languages with similar cultural backgrounds or within the same cultural circle. Oblique translation not only provides additional references when direct translation is not applicable, but is also highly applicable when considering the tendency of Chinese to use verbs and the cultural meanings contained in the source text.
